Fujirebio Diagnostics has developed the first in vitro test that measures levels of the biomarker mesothelin in human serum to monitor mesothelioma. This enables doctors to monitor patients diagnosed with biphasic or epithelioid mesothelioma, monitor for recurrence in patients following surgery, or for measuring response to therapies. The MESOMARK assay is now available nationally to physicians via ARUP, a central reference lab. http://www.fdi.com/newsroom/releases/012507.pdf .

The MESOMARK assay is a simple blood test, using an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) format, for the quantitative measurement of Soluble Mesothelin-Related Peptides (SMRP) in human serum. SMRP is a biomarker produced by mesothelioma cells that can be elevated in the serum of patients suffering from mesothelioma. Monitoring SMRP levels may better help physicians guide treatment options for patients.

Physicians who would like to order the test for their patients must first register with the Internal Review Board (IRB) for MESOMARK testing: http://fdi.com/mesomark/usa/professionals/physician_certification.php .
