San Pedro, CA - Aug. 2, 2007 - Curing
mesothelioma is a matter of money, effort, and federal
support. Organizations like the
Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation,
Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization, and
Pacific Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute work directly to
prevent, treat, and cure mesothelioma.
As a constant champion of mesothelioma research funding, MARF
has urged its supporters and members to write their U.S.
Senators and request their support for mesothelioma funding.
Last year, MARF succeeded in getting mesothelioma added to
the Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program, but it was not
funded for Fiscal Year 2007. We are passing on this appeal
from MARF, asking you to support mesothelioma research.
By making a phone call or sending an email in support of
mesothelioma research funding, you can directly alter the
course of people's lives. US Senator contact information
is
online.
In your phone call or email, address the following points:
--You are a constituent
--You want the federal government to fund mesothelioma
research
--Mesothelioma is a deadly asbestos-caused cancer that kills
over 3,000 Americans each year
--Navy veterans are particularly hard-hit by the disease
--The Department of Defense has invested nothing in
mesothelioma research
--Progress in treatment and curing mesothelioma has lagged
far behind other cancers
--Please support the inclusion of mesothelioma research under
the DOD's Peer Reviewed
Medical Research Program for FY 2008
--Including mesothelioma in the program would add no new
funding to the federal budget
--Ask the senator to sign Sen. Baucus's letter supporting
mesothelioma research
--Please contact Stacey Gordon in the office of Senator Max
Baucus to sign on
--Ask the senator's office to let you know if their
decision
