An Update -- 10/16/01

I have a couple of updates for you on recent mesothelioma events here at Anderson - we are rapidly removing the inertia for treatment and research that existed here when I arrived 3 years ago.

(1) Our EPP followed by IMRT phase I/II trial has passed the IRB, and we are beginning to enter patients - in what format do you want the information for the MARF website? Still no local recurrences in the pilot group, most with stage III disease!

(2) I have formed a multidisciplinary Mesothelioma Working Group here at Anderson - we are working on the followingparticipation in the UChi/NCI phase II bevacizumab trial, the development of one or two of our own non-surgical phase I biologic treatment trials - in the works, a frozen tumor bank to correlate with our prospective patient database in the CT surgery department, and a program project NIH grant.

(3) We have contracted with the international journal Lung Cancerto provide a clinicopathologic case review every other month for publication from MDACC - we are planning sarcomatous mesothelioma to be the 2nd topic submitted.

(4) My laboratory work continues to go well, we are taking 4 candidate molecular therapies which look good in vitro into animal models this fall.
