What is Lactoferrin?

Your mesothelioma page is wonderful! In one of the articles--a "patient story" about a 35 year old woman who was treated with PDT by Dr. Harvey Pass--it is mentioned that "lactoferrin" was used in conjunction with other treatments. Is lactoferrin an herb, hormone, other nutritional supplement? I tried to search the Medline, but didn't see anything relevant to cancer treatment.

I'd appreciate any information you might have on lactoferrin, as my dad is soon to undergo treatment and his doctors are not familiar with lactoferrin.

Joan: I asked Dr. Pass at Wayne State about your question and he asked the husband of one of his patients to call me. His name is David Murphy. You can contact him directly.

According to Mr. Murphy, there is a website located at www.smartbasic.com that has 2 articles listed on lactoferrin - "Lactoferrin: Colostrum-Derived protein" and "Lactoferrin: Food for Life". He said from the home page select newsletter and scroll down 6 or 7 articles and you would find the 2. He said that he just looked them up to make sure they were still there and they are. He also mentioned that his wife just had another CT scan done and she is doing fine with no recurrence of tumor. He said that if you had any questions to e-mail him at dmurphy691@aol.com.
