Dear Kevin and Rebecca
In the interest of speed, we put pragmatism over perfection
and pounded this out today. Obviously, everyone on MARF --
the doctors, the scientists, the legal advocates and most
importantly, the patients and their families, are
positively energized to help you convert this dream into a
reality. We have been advocating for many years that the
ultimate solution to the asbestos quagmire is a cure for
asbestos-mesothelioma itself. We are very grateful that
Senator Hatch and others have now taken the lead to solve
this tragic and avoidable medical-legal problem.
I am attaching a cover
letter, the proposed language for the bill that creates
a mesothelioma research and treatment program, and a
memo from Dr. Harvey
Pass that fleshes out the details of the proposed
medical solution. We believe this government program will
stimulate the best and brightest doctors and scientists in
the country to put on their thinking caps and compete for
the distinction of being able to finally offer help to
mesothelioma victims, who have for too long silently
suffered in a atmosphere of medical nihilism.
I will call you this week once you have had a chance to
review. Again, Dr. Cameron, Dr. Pass, Chris Hahn and myself
are available, as well as other MARF members, to discuss
the merits of this proposal with you and Senator at any
forum of your choosing.
