Does Bankruptcy Prevention Justify "Sanctioned Murder?"Sandpoint, ID
|
Dear Mr. Worthington: Thank you from the bottom of my heart for leading the fight against the Frist-Hatch Asbestos legislation. There is much more to do, however. My husband lost his battle with Mesothelioma in 12/2003. Its not the money that matters to me as much as the suffering I saw and was forced to participate in. I wish to play a part in preventing other families from enduring the same. I perceive a greater evil lurking with this legislation. The govt. has successfully insulated itself against suits, even though they, knowing the dangers of asbestos, chose to install asbestos filled engines in all Naval ships which were used during wartime. My husband was a snipe in the hole on two of those ships in the Bay of the Pigs. They shut down all outside air in the engine rooms. My husband said that it was like walking through a cloud. There is no doubt in my mind where he contracted this horrendous disease. These manufacturing corporations, who also had the knowledge of the dangers of asbestos, are still using asbestos. They also, evidently, have plenty of money to lobby to get the monkey off their back for their wrong doing; and, they have apparently convinced a majority of our legislators that this "SANCTIONED MURDER" is perfectly acceptable if it keeps corporate America from going bankrupt. I am in hope that this legislation is completely dropped, as opposed to working out a compromise; and, a bill is introduced making the manufacturing of asbestos containing products banned forever. Additionally, that all of corporate America who have ever used asbestos in their manufacturing of products be required to finance the cleanup of products containing asbestos across America; and, not expect those of us out here who unsuspectingly bought and used these products in our everyday lives to foot the bill for the cleanup. Please pass my comments on to those you come in contact who will listen.
Sincerely, Freda King
Post script: My husband and I resided in Sandpoint, ID, where I returned after his death. He spent the last three months of his life in the VA hospital in Seattle, WA. Spokane WA (the nearest VA facility to our home) was not a full service facility. The Seattle VA hospital was very accommodating, they allowed me to reside in his room the entire time. People like me who have received some settlements, but have many others pending, would not be compensated if this or other measures resulting from any compromise were to be passed. Nonetheless, even if this group of victims were to be included, I wouldn't feel that my husband's memory would be honored if these corporations were allowed to continue business as usual because of this Frist-Hatch Bill. I am willing to fight for justice against this license to kill that our government is attempting to push through. I am so incensed. FK Note: Mrs. King is not represented by RGW, PC.
