Re: Opposition to S.1125

I am a victim of mesothelioma. No, I don't have the disease, but none-the-less, I am a victim. Our children are also victims. And...our grandchildren are victims. Ron's mother, sisters, nieces and nephews....victims. And my mother, sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews...more victims. My husband suffers from this hideous, preventable disease called mesothelioma, and we are all suffering through his fight to live. His odds are not good since there is no known cure. This cancer was knowingly caused by the companies who manufactured and/or used asbestos. Sad but true.

While proudly serving our country in the U.S. Navy, my husband was also receiving a death sentence from asbestos exposure on the ship. I am devastated by this whole ordeal and the fact I will lose my husband of 39 years...to a disease that could have been prevented, but for the greed of those companies involved.

I believe this proposed bill is so unfair to the victims. It favors the ones who knowingly caused this in the first place. Won't you please reconsider its provisions?

Sincerely,

Janet Simkins

Re: S. 1125

Dear Senator Hatch,

As a fellow Republican, I am very disappointed in your proposed S. 1125.

My husband is dying of malignant mesothelioma, caused by asbestos exposure while he was serving our country in the U.S. Navy. Over the years he has done everything right in taking care of his health, but this cancer has nothing to do with that. This could have been prevented by the companies who knowingly poisoned my husband, and thousands of other fellow human beings. What I don't understand, is why you want to let these companies off the hook when they are not the victims?!!!

I am devastated by this whole ordeal, as is our whole family. I feel like there is a time bomb here-when will it go off and take my husband. Will we celebrate our 39th anniversary? Will Ron make it to Christmas-a big family celebration? Our son hasn't had children yet-will Ron make it long enough so our son's future children will know their grandpa? Most likely not.

It just isn't fair that the victims of this hideous disease will once again be the victims if S. 1125 is passed, and not the greedy companies who knowingly caused this whole mess.

PLEASE, PLEASE reconsider this bill, I beg of you.

Sincerely,

Janet Simkins
